During the working day I am employed as a Systems Developer, working on various projects that utilise skills in Oracle, PL\SQL, Perl, web development & data analysis.
This site is written in xhtml and css2, utilising standards-compliant design practices. There are bits of Javascript, and a standard Perl script that allows users to contact me, without my needing to put an email address on the site.
Presentation and content are separated as far as possible: I want to write about my interests, so I have created a framework where I can update content easily and regularly without having to worry about presentation, which is defined by css.
From previous employment I have experience of developing and maintaining e-commerce enabled web sites, using the industry leading e-commerce package, Intershop.
I've had worked on various other projects over the last few years. I like to have something on the go most of the year.
Current and recent work:
Bath and District Football League. I voluntarily design, edit and maintain the web site for the Bath Football League. The site is updated weekly with results, tables, fixtures and news, so the emphasis is on a clarity and ease and use of maintenance.
Aspect Business Solutions. A new web site for a small IT consultancy. This was my first web site written without tables, using only xhtml and css2.
Farthing and Short. I developed a new, stripped down version of this site, Farthing and Short having decided to dispense with their e-commerce section. The site now presents the basic information - 'who we are', 'what we do', 'how to get in touch with us', 'our policies' - in a simple and effective way. The site could be built up if there was a desire to sell online again.
I have recently updated two web sites: for Stowford Manor Farm, this has simply been to add a new Contact page and to make the improve the site's standing in search engines.
TheSeesaw Nurseries update involved more substantial changes and additions to the existing site. The updated web site was released in July 2004.
